Naxos Culture and Tradition Tour In Detail
The medieval castle town is a remarkably detailed tour of the old town of Naxos, the largest island of the Cyclades.
As you enter and exit the castle doors, you will learn all about the island’s Venetian and Ottoman past, encounter picturesque churches, the Archaeological Museum and the Capuchin Convent .
Wherever you look at the marble lintels and the coats of arms a strange feeling of awe has hold of you. From the Early Cycladic civilization to the Roman and Byzantine era, the exhibits and the history of the times when created will fill you with enthusiasm.
Nothing can be compared with the feeling of being “lost” in the maze of the Old Market, a labyrinth complex of buildings, narrow streets and small squares that appear suddenly in front of you.
On the borderline between sea and sun, stands proudly for more than 2500 years the temple of Apollo, a great gate, “the Portara”, on the island of Palatia.
When you have had your fill with the amazing view, then we take the bus to Prombonas Distillery. “Prombonas Distillery” with its main product, the unique citrus liqueur, is housed in a private area, 5 minutes from the city center.
It is a family business of 105 years of continuous operation. The visit concerns all stages of production.
It starts with an introduction over the qualities of the citrus fruit. It continues with a small stroll in the citrus garden. Then the acquaintance with the distillery area.
There are the distillation machines and at the same time objects of the company are exhibited, dating from the beginning of its operation.
Visitors get to know the whole production process up to bottling, which is carried out simultaneously in the area next door.
The tour ends with a gastronomic tasting of products that in addition to citrus include ouzo, raki with citrus, rakomelo and wine. All drinks are accompanied by sweet and savory dishes !
